| It is in no wheel manufacturers' interest to make a wheel unnecesarily heavy with loads of unnecessary material. Without knowing anything about wheel design/engineering it would be recklessly foolish to just go removing material willy-nilly. You are experimenting at your own risk, and unfortunately when people do that and it goes horribly wrong, the nannies come out and start talking outlawing the items that the rest of us are able to enjoy and use without killing/maiming ourselves.
